Jane's foremost medium was painting in acrylics, initially in response to the landscape. She painted fairly intuitively and responsively but slowly, over time, the sense of line and form she observed from the landscape has been converted into a more hard edged, geometric way of working.
Line, form and colour remain dominant features of her work but she now works using mixed media - acrylics, gouache, pastels, inks and charcoal. As with much of her work it is conceptual themes that now drive her ideas for painting but the sense of our connection to landscape remains a driving force.
"I began as a landscape painter but over time the sense of line and form I observed from the landscape has become more prominent. As an artist it is hard to ignore how climate change, the way we live and other world events can rapidly change what is familiar to us but a lot of my work still celebrates that sense of connection we have to landscape and our past, while also recognising the changes and challenges that face us."
